My Story

Tansi, my name is Darrah. I grew up in Treaty 8 territory, where I spent much of my youth in
social services group homes. Although those years were challenging, they shaped how I
understand people—not as problems to be managed, but as individuals carrying stories,
strengths, and histories that deserve to be honoured. My experiences in the child welfare system
taught me early how to navigate systemic barriers, including accessing services and higher
education. During that time, I was also privileged to be introduced to Indigenous ways of
knowing, healing, and relating. These teachings have guided both my academic journey and the
way I have cultivated my psychological practice.
My approach as a psychologist is deeply relational. I believe people heal when they feel seen,
respected, and safe to bring their full selves into the room. While I use neurofeedback, EMDR,
and somatic-based therapies to support nervous system regulation, the heart of my work is the
relationship we build together. I move at the pace that feels right for each person, honouring their
lived experience, culture, identity, and the wisdom they already carry.
In my journey, work and research, I’ve seen how trauma can leave the nervous system caught in
patterns of hypervigilance, shutdown, or reactivity—states that can make daily life feel heavy or
overwhelming. I’ve found that using neurofeedback can offer a gentle, non-invasive way for the
brain to find its way back to balance. Through real-time feedback, the brain gradually recognizes
when it is slipping into old survival patterns and begins to shift toward steadier, more regulated
states. Over time, people often notice easier sleep, softer anxiety, more stable emotions, and a
growing sense of internal safety.
I am honoured to be a part of Indigenous Psychological Services’ group of psychologists, and I
strive to work in a way that reflects respect, humility, and ongoing learning. I intend to offer a
space where people feel welcomed exactly as they are—a place where healing can unfold
through connection, culturally responsive care, and the strengthening of each person’s own
capacities. My practice is guided by the belief that healing is not linear, that resilience often
shows up quietly, and that each person’s story deserves to be held with care.

Treetops
LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional territories of Treaties 4, 6, 7, and 8 on Turtle Island—ancestral land of many Nations, including the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, Siksika), Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney-Nakoda, Tsuu T’ina, and the Métis Peoples.

We honour the deep connection of these Nations to the land, and our shared responsibility to protect and respect Mother Earth.

We pay tribute to the ancestors, the children, the missing and murdered Indigenous women and men, and all those who rest here.

We recognize the ongoing journey of healing and the shared duty of all treaty people. We stand in solidarity with those present, forgotten, and lost, and seek guidance and wisdom from the land.
