My Story

As a proud Indigenous person from Bigstone Cree Nation, Dakota Gladue is deeply committed to supporting the mental health and well-being of Indigenous communities. Working as a Mental Health Therapist, she draws from her rich cultural heritage and lived experiences to offer a compassionate and empathetic approach to her clients. Dakota has extensive experience working with families and children involved with children services, which has given her a profound understanding of the complexities and challenges these families face. She is dedicated to providing culturally responsive care that honors each client's story and strengths.

Dakota's trauma-informed practice is rooted in an integrative approach that prioritizes the goals of her clients. By incorporating narrative therapy, somatic-attachment, polyvagal theory, solution-focused strategies, and mindfulness techniques, she creates a holistic and supportive environment for healing and growth. Dakota believes in the power of collaboration and strives to empower her clients as they navigate their paths to wellness, ensuring their voices are at the center of the therapeutic process.

Certification and training: EMDR, Somatic-Attachment in progress, Certificate in Treatment of Trauma Using Play Therapy Skills and Techniques (December 2024), Indigenous Awareness Training, Medicine Wheel Awareness Training in progress, Conflict Resolution in Communication, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Family Group Conferencing (FGC).

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional territories of Treaties 4, 6, 7, and 8 on Turtle Island—ancestral land of many Nations, including the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, Siksika), Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney-Nakoda, Tsuu T’ina, and the Métis Peoples.

We honour the deep connection of these Nations to the land, and our shared responsibility to protect and respect Mother Earth. We pay tribute to the ancestors, the children, the missing and murdered Indigenous women and men, and all those who rest here.

We recognize the ongoing journey of healing and the shared duty of all treaty people. We stand in solidarity with those present, forgotten, and lost, and seek guidance and wisdom from the land.
