Therapeutic Philosophy

My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in cultural humility, relational practice, and respect forIndigenous ways of knowing. I recognize that Indigenous peoples hold diverse identities, histories, and strengths, and that healing is deeply connected to culture, community, land, andspirituality. As a person of color, I bring an awareness of lived experiences related to marginalization, systemic barriers, and navigating systems that were not designed with equity in mind. While Ido not assume shared experiences, this perspective strengthens my commitment to practicingwith humility, empathy, and respect. It also reinforces my understanding of the importance oflistening deeply and allowing clients to define their own stories, identities, and healing paths.I approach this work with an understanding of the ongoing impacts of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and systemic inequities. Rather than viewing these experiencesthrough a deficit-based lens, I center resilience, survival, and self-determination. I believehealing is not something I do to a client, but something we work toward together, guided bythe client’s values, goals, and lived experience.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional territories of Treaties 4, 6, 7, and 8 on Turtle Island—ancestral land of many Nations, including the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, Siksika), Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney-Nakoda, Tsuu T’ina, and the Métis Peoples.

We honour the deep connection of these Nations to the land, and our shared responsibility to protect and respect Mother Earth.

We pay tribute to the ancestors, the children, the missing and murdered Indigenous women and men, and all those who rest here.

We recognize the ongoing journey of healing and the shared duty of all treaty people. We stand in solidarity with those present, forgotten, and lost, and seek guidance and wisdom from the land.
