My Story

Leigh is an Indigenous Registered Psychologist and a proud member of Swan River of First Nation. She founded Aboriginal Psychological Services in 2017 and Leigh's Counselling Services in 2018. She created Indigenous Psychological Services in 2021, where she could live a vision she has had since she first started university in 2004.

Leigh has been practicing as a Registered Psychologist since 2018. Leigh specializes in how to provide Psychological Services for Indigenous peoples. Her research as a Master's student at City University of Seattle focused on providing counselling services to Indigenous Peoples and best practices. Her provisional supervision included trauma and addictions with high-risk youth and young adults facing oppression. She was a Clinical Supervisor for Night Wind Treatment Center in 2008-2013 and Edmonton Drug Court in 2013. Her training involves EMDR, completion of Somatic Attachment Practitioner training, Somatic Experiencing training, and Indigenoous Focused Oriented Therapy.

Leigh has been able to practice braiding cultural and clinical practices with the people she works with. Her experience includes working with grief and loss, trans-generational trauma, identity and sexuality, substance abuse, neuro-decolonization, and complex trauma. She also specializes in understanding the impacts of Residential Schools, colonialism, oppression, and racism.

Leigh uses a holistic approach and embodies the Medicine Wheel to heal herself and others.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We acknowledge that we gather on the traditional territories of Treaties 4, 6, 7, and 8 on Turtle Island—ancestral land of many Nations, including the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, Siksika), Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney-Nakoda, Tsuu T’ina, and the Métis Peoples.

We honour the deep connection of these Nations to the land, and our shared responsibility to protect and respect Mother Earth.

We pay tribute to the ancestors, the children, the missing and murdered Indigenous women and men, and all those who rest here.

We recognize the ongoing journey of healing and the shared duty of all treaty people. We stand in solidarity with those present, forgotten, and lost, and seek guidance and wisdom from the land.
