Hello!

My name is Ruta Nuguse and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with Indigenous Psychological Services.

My parents immigrated to Canada from a small country in Africa called Eritrea in the early 80’s and I’ve had the privilege of growing up on Treaty 6 land. My passion for mental health began with my interest in understanding the impacts of intergenerational trauma on BIPOC communities and how using a holistic lens and honoring one's whole self can support us on our path of healing and growth.

I believe that everyone has a unique identity and I like to support clients by being present and providing a safe and non-judgemental space. I work from a collaborative and culturally sensitive lens, incorporating different modalities to best fit my clients needs. This includes, trauma informed practices, mindfulness, EMDR, trauma focused CBT, DBT, art expression, play therapy and person-centered therapy. I currently work with individuals ages 10+ and groups.

You can see me at our west office, south office or virtually!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We recognize that the land on which we gather is part of Turtle Island, situated within the territories of Treaties Four, Six, Seven, and Eight. This land has long been a sacred gathering place for many nations, including the Blackfoot Confederacy—Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika—alongside the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney-Nakoda, Tsuu T'ina Nation, and the Métis Peoples who call this region home. The deep connection that the First Peoples have to this land teaches us our shared responsibility to protect and honor Mother Earth. Through this acknowledgment, we pay tribute to the ancestors, the children, and all those who rest here, as well as the missing and murdered Indigenous women and men. We recognize the ongoing journey of collective healing for all of humanity. We are reminded that all treaty people have a duty to one another. We stand in solidarity with those beside us, those forgotten, and those lost. We connect with Mother Earth for healing, guidance, and the teachings she offers.
