Kara is a Registered Metis Psychologist from mixed ancestry (English, Irish, Finnish, Polish, German,
Ukrainian and Red River Metis) and a registered citizen of the Manitoba Metis Federation.
She believes in de-pathologizing mental health and values people’s strengths in reclaiming their
interconnectedness and in the reconciliation of relationships. Kara works from a holistic approach which
includes a consideration of each of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual parts of wellness.
Kara’s expertise is in working with children, teens, adults, couples, families and elders who have
experienced trauma and her therapy approach works with clients’ strengths to connect to the wisdom
of their bodies as well as the different aspects of their personality to deepen a sense of knowledge and
healing in a gentle, curious, respectful and non-judgmental way. She also works with those who wish to
explore deepening a spiritual and/or creative connection.
Kara received her Masters of Science Degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University
in 2006 and has been practicing as a psychologist since then. Kara has 30 years of experience working
with Indigenous and Non-Indigenous children and their families in rural and urban areas as well as in-
patient care and in private practice settings, and in 2019 she qualified as an expert witness in judicial
Areas of Practice include: complex trauma, PTSD, grief/loss, depression, anxiety, stress and burnout, ADHD,
relationship issues, collaborative coparenting, parent coaching, life transitions, boundaries, spiritual
issues, kinship, fostering, and adoption, and LGBTQ2S+.
