My Story
Kathleen Golosky
Indigenous Registered Psychologist
Telehealth Edmonton Office
I am Metis from Treaty 8 territory and MNA Region 1. I have worked within Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous communities for over 15 years. My foundation of practice is based on the beliefs that “It shouldn’t hurt to be a child”. This applies not only to the children and adolescents I work with, it also is relevant for adults who have carried their early painful experiences into their adult lives that result in ways of coping which block happiness and health.
I combine Western psychological practises with Indigenous practises for a more holistic approach to healing and growth. These practices include: Attachment therapy (psychodynamic), Person-centred therapy, Play therapy, Trauma and Neurosystems (NMT Model - Bruce Perry). Addictions treatment; Body-based therapies (critical for trauma); Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT, Solution-focused therapy; and Cultural training, through teachings by Indigenous knowledge keepers, elders, and ceremony.
Qualifications include: Red Stream Advanced Play Therapy Training Certification (Play Therapist Certification Stream); Green Stream Foundations of Play Therapy Certification; EMDR Basic Training (certification - Supervision); EMDR Child Trauma Specialist Certification; EMDR and Sandtray Training; Theraplay and MIM Certification; Neurosequential Model Training Certification; Certified Connect Parent Training Trainer; Certified Circle of Security Parent Trainer; Solution-focused Therapy Certification; Bodynamics and SE supervision for five years; Indigenous cultural trainings (Cree, Blackfoot)
