My Story
Selena is a Registered Psychologist of Mi’kmaq ancestry and was raised as a settler who lives in Treaty 6 territory, with a passion for promoting Indigenous health and culture. Selena has been helping since 2007, initially as a volunteer victim service advocate, then later as a youth and family counsellor, crisis counsellor, and family support worker, before registering as a psychologist. As a practicing psychologist, Selena has worked in the areas of correctional mental health, including at an Indigenous healing lodge, as well as in the areas of grief and loss, family resourcing, private practice, weight management, as well as facilitating mental health group counselling at a walk-in counselling centre. Selena draws from a multimodal approach, specifically using an understanding of the value of engaging somatically, experientially, and relationally. She works alongside individuals to increase awareness and understanding, with the intent of helping to support change through finding, accepting, and then embodying their most authentic selves and lives.
